Highest Penalties

Question:
Which violations result in the highest penalties?
Answer:

The penalties vary substantially by violation and circumstance. Even for the same violation penalties widely vary. For example, in a recent year, civil monetary penalties (CMP) for flood insurance violations ranged from $5,000 to $207,245. The single largest CMP imposed in the year was $1 billion for UDAP issues. Note for certain violations reimbursement to consumers may be required in addition to civil monetary penalties.
