Informing the Regulators of SAR Filings

Answered by:

Question:
Is the bank or FinCen responsible for notifying the bank's federal regulator when a Suspicious Activity Report has been filed?
Answer:

FinCEN is responsible for disseminating the information to the regulators, where appropriate. There have been a few circumstances, however, where the regulators have asked for direct notification.

The SAR instructions also say that financial institutions are encouraged to provide copies of suspicious activity reports to state and local authorities, where appropriate.
