Installing Audio Alarms as a Burglary Deterrent

Question:
I know that silent alarms must be installed in the event of a holdup, but can audio alarms be installed as a burglary deterrent?
Answer:

Answer by Andy Zavoina:Absolutely, these may be used. Minimum devices the bank must have includes an alarm system or something similar that notifies law enforcement of a robbery/burglary. If this system is capable of making that notification or is in addition to one that does, you will have met the minimum requirement. The audible alarm draws attention to the building and may be seen as a plus. It should be one of several security layers you have in place.

Answer by Barry Thompson:Be careful when adding audio alarms for burglary in areas where you can't service them quickly. Years ago, I had an alarm system in a small rural community that had a siren. One night around midnight the alarm was activated and we couldn't reset it. After the siren sounded for four hours on a Sunday night the alarm company arrived to fix it. The reason it was activated was because a bee hive was being formed against the plates of the alarm that signaled tampering of the alarm. Needless to say the community wasn't happy, the police were angry and the bees left town. I was the lucky one to handle the complaints.
