Managing lost or stolen cashier’s check claims safely

Question: 
If we get a claim that one of our cashier’s checks is lost, and pay the claim before we have to, what would happen if the original check shows up and we returned it as a “stopped payment”?
Answer: 

If the check is less than 90 days old, you could be forced to pay it even though you’ve already honored the lost check claim. There could also be other consequences.
