Mock robbery training is risky

Answered by:

We have considered holding a “mock robbery” training exercise. Do you think this is a good idea?

I think holding a “surprise” mock robbery or drill is a mistake. There are too many variables and opportunities for things to go wrong. I am a proponent of discussing and walking through your plan for a robbery, active shooter event, or other threat. It is also good to discuss police response with your local law enforcement agency. I encourage inviting them to your office to see the layout, meet your employees, and discuss their response protocol.
