Multiple payments of an item

Answered by:

Question:
What is meant by “multiple presentments” of an item?
Answer:

Multiple presentments of a check can occur when a check payee makes a mobile deposit of the check and, mistakenly or deliberately, deposits the same check one or more additional times. Multiple presentments can also happen when a check is returned unpaid by the paying bank, and the payee redeposits the same check one or more times, in original or substitute check form or as an ACH check conversion. Regardless of how they occur, multiple presentments can result in overdrafts, multiple fees, or both.
