Policy on Internet Access

Answered by:

Question:
To help all our employees become more adept at using the Internet, we're getting ready to make Internet access available to them. Could you please provide some guidance about any groundwork we should lay first?
Answer:

Before you extend access to all employees, carefully construct and adopt an Internet Access Policy. A good policy can help you lessen the Net's access on employee productivity, can protect your network bandwidth from "download drain", and can help protect you from legal liability. In addition to Andy Zavoina's Internet Acceptable Use Policy on Andy's page, I've found a guide to developing an Internet access policy from SurfControl that is excellent.
