Require Co-Signer on Borrower's First Loan?

Answered by:

Question:
Can a bank require a co-signer on the first loan a borrower has ever had even if they qualify on their own?
Answer:

No, not if they qualify. Requiring another signer could be a discriminatory event if the applicant qualifies on their own merits.
