Requiring Police Reports for Claims

Answered by:

Question:
What about asking for a police report when a claim is made, can we do that?
Answer:

: Police reports are similar to many other elements of a Reg E investigation, you can ask but ensure they know it's optional. Ask if they will, and do not insinuate they must. If they do not want a police report filed because they don't want this known person to get in trouble, they just want their money back, tell them the bank will file one if a claim is paid – but only if that is true, and they will obviously be named in that report as it was their claim that caused the bank to suffer a loss. Obviously, the police will ask them for statements leading to a perpetrator.
