Retaining complaint letters

Question:
How long should we keep typical complaint letters?
Answer:

There is no retention requirement for complaint letters in general but typically hold these at least from exam to exam or three years, whichever is less.
If there is any litigation involved you'd keep them longer according to the case. If they were a part of your CRA Public File or subject to a specific regulation such as RESPA or Reg. E, you would follow the retention requirements defined in the appropriate regulation as evidence of compliance.
