Returns in the ACH Network

Answered by:

Does the ACH Rules cover every type of situation where a customer wants to return an entry?

No. While the ACH Rules do try to account for many types of return situations, they can’t possibly cover everything. Sometimes it’s up to the bank to make a decision on how to handle. The ACH Rules expect a bank to select a return reason that best suits the situation. At times, consumers expect return rights or expect your bank to make them whole when you have no obligation, or method, to help them. And of course, ensure you are balancing the ACH Rules with other EFTA elements, such as Regulation E.
