Securing Remote Deposit Capture Scanners

Question:
How do you recommend that a Remote Deposit Capture customer secure its scanner? Is the scanner itself a security risk?
Answer:

A scanner, in essence, is a dumb device. It is the authentication process that a user must complete to begin the scanning process that is important. Aside from its intrinsic value as a piece of hardware, the scanner is of little value if it is not connected and online with the RDC capture application.
