Self-service reporting system vs. email reports

Question:
What are the tradeoffs between self-service reporting systems and emailed reports?
Answer:

A self-service reporting system allows users to build and access information in an on-demand format. Compared to email reports, which may only arrive on a predetermined basis or when certain criteria are met, self-service reports empower users to access timely data when they need it. However, self-service systems may require additional technology costs and end user training.
