Servicing Drive Up ATMs

Answered by:

Question:
I am a former 30 year banker and a current consultant for banks. The subject of servicing drive up ATMs always comes up. I would not recommend this, but a current client wants an opinion of placing a car in the drive-in lane while changing canisters. Is this a deterrent or a recommended action?
Answer:

This is my opinion on this. First, the servicer needs to park somewhere. The closer, the better, as the person is safer with less exposure going from their vehicle to the machine. Next, this prohibits anyone else from trying to use the machine while it is being serviced.

I don't believe there is one formula that will meet everyone's needs. Concerns here are for the safety of staff, and the safety of the property. Pairs are always encouraged and we preferred having the armored car service we used service machines. This won't necessarily work for the rural community bank. So the procedures can vary, based on needs. Still, the common theme I mentioned above should apply across the board, staff safety before property.
