Sounding the Alarm

Answered by:

Question:
We are afraid to activate our alarm during a robbery. What do you recommend?
Answer:

This apprehension may stem from a fear of police walking in on a robbery resulting in a potential shootout in the lobby or of the robber seeing responding officers and causing a hostage situation. I would advise a meeting with law enforcement to discuss their response protocol. The safest option for everyone is for the responding officers to remain outside and out of sight, and have a designated employee go out to meet them. We usually advise employees to activate their alarm when they feel safe to do so.
