Stale-dated Cashier Checks

Answered by:

Question:
Is there a stale date on bank issued cashiers check? And if so, what is the date from issue date. Is it subject to escheat and if so, after how long?
Answer:

The escheat (or abandoned property) timing question is one that can only be answered by referring to your state's abandoned property law and regulations. An uncashed cashier's check will most definitely be subject to surrender under abandoned property requirements, however.

Subject to those requirements, however, cashier's checks continue to be enforceable obligations of the issuing bank until they are paid.
