Stop Payments While eBanking

Answered by:

Question:
Should a request to stop payment on a check issued through a bill payment system be handled the same as a normal stop payment request or are there other considerations?
Answer:

If you are using an Internet banking vendor, they or a vendor they selected will be issuing the payment order/check. Once funds are debited from your customer's account it goes to a clearing account, and then to the vendor. Your bank may assist in the stop payment, but the check may be originating and clearing elsewhere. The Internet banking vendor will already have a procedure for this in place. Also, your Internet banking agreement should clearly spell out to the customer, how to place a stop on a bill pay.
