Time Frame/Requirements for Returning Forged Check

Question: 
A check cleared our customers account on 9/16/11. This check is forged and today is 9/22/11. How long do we have to return this back to the bank that cashed it? Other than the copy of the check and affidavit, what other items do I need to fax to the bank?
Answer: 

The model language of the Uniform Commercial Code would give you until midnight the business day after the check is presented for payment which is this case would be 9/19/11. Any return after that would be considered a late return and the bank of first deposit could file a claim against you for it.
