Using Banker Photos in Marketing Campaign

Answered by:

Question:
Our marketing department is considering the use of personal photos of our branch managers and personal bankers in a marketing campaign. What are the risks associated with this practice and is there any industry standard which may address any concerns? Do you know of any instances where this created problems?
Answer:

You'd need waivers from the people authorizing use. Some bankers who are very security conscious would say that it is a bad practice to publish pictures and draw attention to these folks for fear that they may be targeted. I believe it depends on the conditions and market. It is very common to see photos announcing the promotion of a bank officer or touting a new one.

You'll have to determine for yourself, based on the facts at hand, if you feel this may put a target on the person's back or promote the bank. I will say that my photo was in the paper more than once as were many of my peers. We came out fine. That was our choice and it was good for us and our bank.
