Video Surveillance Warning

Question:
Do you know where I can find information in regard to any law or regulation that may be in existence that requires you to have signs posted to tell the public that they are under video surveillance? We just did a major upgrade to our security cameras and installed a big screen TV in each of our offices. I was not sure if I am required under any law or regulation that signs need to be posted for the public view.
Answer:

Your legal counsel is the best source for an answer and signs are simply one form of deterrent. As long as a person is in a place open to the public (your bank), he/she has no reasonable expectation of privacy. This includes being watched in person or electronically. Some states may have additional requirements particularly regarding the recording of conversations, so please check with yours. As to employees, they have no reasonable expectation of privacy, either. (Except for restrooms.)
