Visa Dispute Resolution Letters

Answered by:

Question:
We provide provisional credit to our cardholders as required by Visa when they file a dispute. Are there any required letters that must be sent to the cardholder during the resolution process?
Answer:

Reg E requires that within two days of making the provisional credit you notify them of the amount of the credit. Any other rules should agree with that or be more stringent. You also have to send a written notice if you deny the claim. That would be done within three business days. Discuss the provisional credit if applicable as there are potential overdraft considerations you need to make. If you pay the claim, that has to be communicated (not necessarily in writing) within the same three business day period. You'll find more good information on this and free tools on Reg E, which can apply to branded debit cards, in the Banker Tools section of our site.
