What if a nonprofit shares a corporate EIN? Who is beneficial owner?

Answered by:

Question:
Are nonprofits included in beneficial ownership certification? What about shared EINs?
Answer:

Nonprofit organizations are excluded from beneficial ownership. Nonprofit corporations are included but only the control prong. Some nonprofits share EINS with locale chapters. There is no specific FAQ on this issue. Generally, most institutions still require the corporate to certify beneficial ownership for these shared EIN situations. It really highlights a poor banking practices.
