Who Should Sign W-9 Certification of EIN?

Answered by:

Question:
Who should be signing the W-9 Certification of an EIN for an irrevocable trust where the grantor is living but not a trustee : the grantor or the trustee?
Answer:

That's a difficult question, since the trust must have a trustee in order to do anything. If the grantor is not also a trustee, you have a bigger problem than figuring out who signs the W-9.

Find out who the trustee is, then have him or her certify the EIN.
