Answer:
Everything went smoothly in 2000 and 2001. All dates have passed without IT problems. I see no reason for a law suit at this point and I recently disposed of my records I had on my bookshelf.
Your IT department should keep records longer to document code changes that were made. I would believe they'd retain them until that system is no longer used since some modifications may have been significant.
