Fair Lending Training
The folks from National Penn Bank, PA, have shared a fair lending training tool they find useful. This is an excellent set of tools you may use for training. These are very well written and will suit the needs of many for initial fair lending training, or as a refresher. This may easily be customized to your exact needs and elevated to advanced training with your own fair lending scenarios.
At the core, you have a PowerPoint presentation complete with graphics. It explains the why of fair lending and the laws and regulations influencing the treatment of customers, including the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA and Reg. B), Fair Housing Act, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA and Reg. BB), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA and Reg. C) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA and Reg. V).
The PowerPoint presentation takes you through real scenarios as examples of what is acceptable, and what is not, in the loan interview. The three types of discrimination are discussed with several examples provided which are meant to engage the audience. Slide 14 of this 17 slide presentation refers to a discussion by the audience of some scenarios. A separate handout has three scenarios provided for this. The third part of this training module is also referenced in the PowerPoint and it is a role playing script. Two people in your audience should role play as lender and borrower. See how the questions asked and comments made can be fair lending foibles, whether intentional or not.
