After listening to the 'digging for credit' webinar, I had a question about fund raising.

The speaker mentioned assisting in fund raising for LMI could qualify.

Here is my example: The bank is putting on a haunted hayride in which employees scare to raise money, proceeds are to benefit 'coats for kids'. The children are chosen by counselors from schools based on need to receive the coats.

Is this what the speaker meant?

go to the 2013 supplemental q and a. You will find a discussion of community development services with a lengthy list of examples at §l.12(i)–3: What are examples of community development services?

There is a list of "technical services" examples:

Examples of technical assistance activities that are related to the provision of financial services and that might be provided to community development organizations include:

• Assisting in fund raising, including soliciting or arranging investments

http://www.ffiec.gov/cra/qnadoc.htm

So yes, if the bank is helping to fund raise, it should count.

Document the heck out of how these children were LMI. That could be accomplished by income eligibility of the free and reduced lunch program at the schools. You would probably need something in writing from the schools how the children were chosen.
