It seems from my viewing that Reg CC is one of the most frequent threads posted.

Here is my question: Within my bank there is a disagreement regarding what constitutes a cashier check. These days many banks do not indicate that a negotiable instrument is or is not a cashier or official check. There are also some of these items that are issued by a bank for loan proceeds or construction loan disbursement.

Is there an official description of what is a cashier or official check, with respect to Reg CC?

Section 229.2(i):

(i) Cashier's check means a check that is--
(1) Drawn on a bank;
(2) Signed by an officer or employee of the bank on behalf of the bank as drawer;
(3) A direct obligation of the bank; and
(4) Provided to a customer of the bank or acquired from the bank for remittance purposes.

An official check is a cashier's check for Reg CC purposes.
