Poll - 4th of July - Day Off?

Our bank does not give a floating day off when July 4th is on a Saturday. Every other bank I've worked for did. I'm curious what the standard is. ALso, does anyone have any ideas on how to convince management that we deserve a day?

We just simply get the Friday or Monday after. Depending on if the 4th is on Saturday or Sunday. I guess it follows the Federal Holiday schedule that way.

We follow the Federal Reserve holiday schedule, saturday holidays earn no day off or float day, sunday holidays we close monday. We are not open on saturday, if that helps with your equation. If we were to be open on saturdays, we would close for a saturday holiday.

I thought we would get that too, but the Federal Reserve is open both Friday and Monday so we are too. No floating holiday for us. ETA: We are usually open on Saturdays (for 4 hours), but we will be closed on the 4th.

Thanks for the responses. I think we deserve a day off...but I guess in the world we live in today ... we need to be thankful that we not permanently have a day off. I love my job...I love my job....etc....

When a holiday falls on a Saturday we pay all eligible employees 4 hours of holiday pay. Our bank is normally open 8 - 12 on Saturdays.

Next year, when it falls on Sunday we'll get Monday off.
Which sounds good until you consider that Christmas and New Years are on Saturday that year so then we'll probably lose those days.

We all get a floating holiday but it must be taken by May 31. I'm not sure of the reasoning there but I am grateful to get the day. And, our branches are open for 4 hours on Sturday but not the 4th

We follow the Federal Reserve holiday schedule. They are open on Friday, July 3rd, so we will be open. We will be closed on Saturday, July 4th (we are usually open on Saturdays.) There will be no floating holiday. We're excited just to have a two day weekend.

Like several of the above posters, we are open (drive thru only) on Saturdays so the 4th will just be a day closed and nothing else given. If it fell on a Sunday then we would be closed Monday like Fed.

Does anyone know WHY the Fed doesn't close on the Friday before a Saturday holiday, but they do close the Monday after a Sunday holiday?

Saturday is considered a "working day" for banks, which is why FRB does not take a Friday day off for a holiday falling on Saturday (that was what we were told eons ago when I was a Fed employee). I was happy when they started giving Monday off for a Sunday holiday...that was during my tenure.

As of now, we will be closed on Friday, July 3rd but that possibly may change and we get a floating holiday. We will have limited staff come in on Friday to process overdrafts, ACH, etc. and our night operator will come in and process like any other day.

For those of you closed on Friday, will you have a skelton crew coming in to post incoming activity and work NSF items? With the Fed being open, you still have to abide by their return deadlines, etc
