I'm interested in knowing how many holidays other institutions grant annually to employees. Also, since two major holidays fall on weekend days in 2004, how do you plan to handle closure (or not) and holiday pay. Input will be appreciated.

Your page 2 will likely differ from my page two, depending on what I have and have not read, preference setting as to number of topics shown, etc... A link is more helpful.

This year (2003), the Bank had six holidays (1/1, 5/26, 7/4, 9/1, 11/27, and 12/25), plus 2 floating holidays.

In 2004, we have 9 holidays (1/1, 1/19, 2/16, 5/24, 7/5, 11/11, 11/25, and 12/27) with no floaters.

We close whenever the Fed is closed. For 2004, since Christmas and New Years are on the weekend, all employees will be given 2 floating holidays that must be taken within 90 days and only with supervisory prior approval.

I think that is great. In my prior life, there were no "make-ups" for those, you simply got that day off if you were not otherwise scheduled to work. In these days of 7 day banking, holidays are fewer.

I'm curious, How come the FRB is taking the christmas and new years holidays on saturdays?

Do they normally work on Saturdays? They are taking the 4th of July holiday on Monday.

That is because the 4th is a Sunday. If Saturday is the holiday, that is the day of observation. This is not a policy change.
