Does anyone have any recommendations for Compliance Forums or quarterly compliance groups that are great outlets for learning and sharing about compliance concerns?

Thanks.

I am not aware of any really local strong ones, and would interested as well.

The CBW offers a quarterly forum in Madison where they bring in Young & Associates to present on a topic each quarter, and it is usually pretty good (plus many take aways and access to their helplines), but I find that its not a very aggressive group in terms of networking and discussion and such.

I am not sure if the WBA sponsers anything more local.. I would be nice if they do.

But I too am interested.

I would check with your state banking association to see if they are aware of any groups (even if they are competitors). I would also ask other bankers in your area, as they may have groups they belong to. Sometimes groups like this are informal, i.e. just send out questions/resources to a small circle of bankers via email and share responses.

Depending on where you are, there may be more formal groups or less formal groups.

Louisiana Bankers Association has regular periodic peer group discussions involving several areas of banking; compliance, security, human resources, audit, etc. For our group, it's just the compliance officers and it is great to discuss matters with your peers/friends. Ask your state banking association and maybe you can start one up.

THe WBA DOES offer compliance forums three times a year to its members. One is in Milwaukee, one in the Dells and I think one in Stevens Point. The cost is $1000 a year and you can have two attendees per session.

Well worth it and great for networking.

I also recently received info from Wipfli, the consulting group. They also do 3-4 sessions, with a slightly higher cost.

I go to both the WBA and Wipfli Compliance Forums and find them both to be very helpful. Wipfli's is a much smaller group (10 - 15) people that gather from the same area. Even though we are competitors, in the compliance world we are all striving to just "get it right" and try and help each other in any way possible.
WBA's is on a bigger scale but I gather good information from it also.

We regularly attend both the CBW and WBA compliance forums. While sponsored by two completely different organizations, the material provided in the cost from each I have found to be an invaluable resource.

Bill Elliott of Young and Associates is the presenter for the CBW seminars and he's always excellent. He also provides his email address in the event you have any questions.

Heather McKinnon normally hosts the WBA Compliance Forums and is a wealth of knowledge as well. I have also called her with questions from time to time and provides very thorough answers.

Is anyone planning on attending the CBW forum next week in
Madison??

JJ is sending me in his place (going on vacation--lucky duck) and would like to be able to meet anyone from BOL in person.

I think I was in the 2nd to last row about the 3rd seat from the left if you're looking at the speaker.

We will be signing up for next year as well....been going for several years now.

Look forward to meeting you!

Maybe we need to wear name tags with our BOL names instead of our real ones smile

Next meeting is February 1 - let's come up with a plan for how we will be able to recognize each other? I would wear a hat...but people would laugh...any thoughts? We aren't really in a 'rose in a book' type of atmosphere...

We have over a month to figure out a way to identify ourselves.

We could all agree to meet in a certain corner of the room right before lunch or something like that smile

Wow! I was also there! I attend the CBW Compliance Program and also Wipfli's Compliance Forum in Madison every year. I used to attend the WBA forums also, but it got to expensive to go to all three. I am so curious now as to who all of you are!

Hope to see all of you in Febuary!

I will be attending my first CBW Compliance Seminar and look forward to meeting many of you. What is the dress code for these meetings, business casual or comfy casual; i.e., jeans?

I see the full range from jeans to suits (suits more so for the local folks who plan to go back to the office afterwards)... I usually wore jeans and a polo or button down.

Either way, dress in what is comfortable for you.

Much nicer location this year, and nice being on the eastside for the Milwaukee area people.
