Mine would be somewhere around Knoxville, Tennessee. I love it up there. I live in the upstate of South Carolina...right at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is nothing better than getting in the car and takin a trip through the Blue Ridge and Smokey mountains to get to Knoxville. (Unless there is a rock slide like a few years ago). Knoxville is such a nice town. They have a good college there...with a good football team (UT). Good restaurants...and barbecue Although they will never beat the barbecue in South Carolina. But that should be a totally different thread.

I love the mid to upper Lake Huron coast of Michigan. Not nearly as developed as the Lake Michigan side, slower pace, great water sports and winter sports (snowmobiling and x-country skking in particular), but mostly great people. Probably some "grass is greener" here since I've always lived in big cities, but honestly think I would really enjoy it. Oh, Aruba would be O.K. too

I live in what many people would call an ideal location. Historic buildings, a vibrant downtown, a college town, all nestled in the mountains with a great climate and a river that runs right through the middle of it. But I miss the beach!

I prefer NE. I lived in Salem MA for more than 30 years and felt that what it didn't have (mountains) was just 1-2 hours away. We have heat, cold, wet, dry, college, boats, cars, trains, snow and a major city within 15 miles. We also have the crazies at Halloween.
It also makes us appreciate the open spaces of Nevada, Arizona, etc.

My ideal place is Telluride, CO. I lived there for a couple years right after college and loved it. The population, besides the weekend millionaires and movie stars, were 1500 black sheep of the family all living together. In the winter, you would wake up, usually around noon, a walk down to the lift and hit the mountain. In the summer, there was some form of festival almost every weekend. During the week you numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, waterfalls to read a book by, hanging out at the coffee shop, or there are several National parks within an hour or 2. Unfortunately Telluride is expensive, so you have to work a job or two, but it is worth it. I'm hoping to move back there sometime in the near future (come on Lotto numbers).

The Carolinas. Preferably on the shore. Seasons, but short/mild winter. Good barbecue. Good music. The OCEAN.
Outside of the US, probably a Carribbean island (thinking Ambergris Caye in Belize.)

I loved Maine when I visited again last summer. Summers in Maine, winters in Arizona.

Dawnie, if we're on the same map Koln is near the Rhine and that is wine country. But it has been a long time since I was in that neighborhood.
This time of year, the North Pole is the place to be. Soon my living room will resemble the NP and my wallet the dust bowl, dry, dusty and empty.

Gotta disagree - I lived there for four years and loved it. Of course I went to Kansas City from there so it wasn't hard to miss B'ham!

I'm partial to Minnesota (the North Shore is awesome), but ask me again in February

The west coast of Maui. My husband & I honeymooned there, and it was gorgeous! Before we left, I tried to talk him into taking a few resumes with him (he's a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America). Unfortunately, he didn't or we could be living there right now. Sigh...

Purg and Wolf Creek are crankin'! We have already had good snow. It has been incredibly cold this year though. Both resorts opened on time and everyone I've talked to is loving it.

Yes Andy, Koln (I knew I butchered the spelling) is in wine country, and what a lovely country that is! Or I think it was...there was some wine involved I've been to Santa's warehouse in North Pole Alaska. If you look anything like that, MOVE! You have toooooo mucccchhhhh stufffff!!!!! (And the reindeer poop is distracting from the tree scent)

For me, it would be the Northwoods of Wisconsin or upper penisula of Michigan. It is so beautiful up there, the pace is slower than here (Chicago-area) and the people are so nice. Some day...
