I've read the recent article by Mary B. where she compares the control list to the OFAC list. I'm not clear on some points. Should the Control list be checked against all tranactions the same as the OFAC list? Is there a form to complete to prove and verify the records were checked?

Seems like purchasing software is the easiest and most efficient way to ensure a bank is checking everything correctly.

Everyone should have received instructions and a FAQ sheet along with the 314 a lists (I am assuming you meant 314a). These instructions provide specific guidelines on what records to check. You can access the User Guide and instructions on the Secure Sharing System (Web Site where you pull down your lists).

The biweekly 314a list replaced the randomly issued control list a while back.

Remember when the very first control list went out on FDIC FIL?

Whoopsie!

I see those particular FIL's from October 2001 are no longer available on FDIC's website.

I would have love to have been a fly on the wall when THAT conversation took place......"You did WHAT?????

I remember when the list first came out and it had hundreds and hundreds of names on it. We were in shock. I was at a "really big bank" then so it was quite a treat.

I was recently reminiscing about BSA. Remember when BSA was all about how to fill out a CTR. That was pretty much it. Yes, I agree with your statement.

Ahhh the good old days! I can remember an auditor pouring over three months worth of CTRs and nit picking 2 or three because a box was not checked or the teller rounded down instead of up. Our response to those audits was to file an amended CTR and move on. Could someone pass me a tissue??

And you have to wonder, did the lack of a box being checked, or the difference of $1 on the CTR make or break a serious money laundering investigation?
