Anybody have definitions for the CIP terms "documentary" and "non-documentary?" We thought we might add them to our CIP policy.

It can get confusing for bank staff, especially when we ask them to "document" the "non-documentary" verifications.

So Cal
I understand the terms to mean the following:
Documentary verification refers to identification documents such as an ID card, Driver's License, Passport, etc.
Non-documentary verification refers to processes, such as consulting a third party database, following up with telephone calls/mailings, etc.

This is what I have always thought. I hope it helps.
