There may or may not be something in the state's statutes addressing the question, but apparently the Department of Unemployment Assistance has a rule that exempts bona fide payroll accounts from the agency's levies. Since the Compliance Officer represents the agency, I recommend making a note of his or her name, and the date and a summary of your contact with him or her, and move on.
Business Payroll Accounts Exempt for MA DUA?
Are business payroll accounts exempt from a Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance levy? I don't see any language in Massachusetts Law that states this, yet I have a MA DUA Compliance Officer telling me that they are.
