'Twas the Night Before Christmas at the Bank

‘Twas the night before Christmas,
when all through the bank
Not a customer was stirring,
not even old man Hank;
The stockings were hung
by the front desk with care,
In hopes that holiday bonuses
soon would be there.
The Board members were nestled
all snug in their beds,
With visions of new regulations
dancing in their heads.
The V.P.s in their scarves and
the Branch Manager escaped,
as they flew out the door for
a short winter’s break.

When out in the parking lot
there arose such a clatter,
the Security Officer sprang from
his desk to see what was the matter.
To the window he raced and
pulled up the blinds,
Gazing out, he shook off
the weariness from his mind.
The moon shining brightly
with new-fallen snow
Gave the brilliance of mid-day
to the landscape below.
When what to his tired, blurred
eyes should appear,
But a makeshift sleigh, and
a man dressed as a reindeer.
And then, in a jiffy, he heard
on the roof’s shingles,
What sounded like the tapping
of hooves and sleigh bell jingles.

As he let down the blinds,
and was turning around,
Through the front doors, a
bearded man came with a bound.
A scribbled demand note he
held out in his left hand,
“put all your cash in this bag!”
he belted out in command.
With eyes that twinkled brightly,
the security officer complied,
as he hit the alarm button…and
the police quickly arrived.

The greedy little Scrooge and
his accomplice were caught.
They didn’t get the cash;
their efforts were all for naught.
As the police drove them away
cheering with all their might,
They shouted with glee...
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
