SCOTUS FDCPA ruling on collectors of purchased debt

Case URL:

Santander Consumer Financial USA Inc. had purchased defaulted loans from CitiFinancial and sought to collect on those loans in ways that the obligors believed violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The district court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit held that Santander didn't qualify as a debt collector as defined by the Act because it did not regularly seek to collect debts owed to another. SCOTUS affirmed the decisions of the lower courts.
