Looks like these Tax Day Tea Party gatherings are spreading - any thoughts from fellow BOLers?

Quite a variant on the 70s protest song "Something's Happening Here...."

I am going to one for sure, possibly two others in the South Florida area.

I hate to say it, but I think we're due for another revolution. The founders put up with less from King George than we do from the federal government.

The local talk radio station is trying to organize one in our town for April 15th. Could be interesting.

I wish I knew constitutional law better. My rumbling gut suggests that everything, from TARP through the bailouts and definitely the "encouraged resignation" of the GM CEO, violates the US Constitution. But all I've read is an insinuation that only Congress has the right to legislate, and giving billions to the US Treasury to spend as it sees fit delegated more power to the Executive Branch than the Constitution would permit.

I'm going to the one in Atlanta - Sean Hannity will broadcast from there - and my better half hopes to join me -

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have." Gerald R. Ford

Norman Mattoon Thomas (November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968).

Some of us are old enough to remember him running for President; he was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.

Norman Thomas said this in a 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until, one day, America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

Hannity.com has a forum that lists some of the events; otherwise this seems to be such a spontaneous nationwide grassroots uprising that a Google search suggests that several groups are organizing. One article says anywhere from 170-1,000 rallies may happen April 15th, with more scheduled July 4th.

There's also an email going around from one of the local Republican groups encouraging people to mail teabags to Congress. I'm not sure what it would accomplish other than ticking off the mailroom staff, but if enough people did it it might be entertaining.
