I am in need of a sample letter to send to our customers whose accounts just went dormant. We have a letter, but apparently it is not "friendly" enough for some of our customers, so I was hoping to see what other banks are using in their letters to compare. Does anyone have something like this that you can send my way? Thanks for your help.

Dear Customer:

Thank you for maintaining your account at ABC Bank.

Our records indicate that your account has had no activity since <date>.

Accounts having no activity (other than service charges) for a period of 24 consecutive months are automatically placed in an inactive status. Your account will be declared inactive on <date>.

The law requires that all funds remaining in an account that has been inactive for a period of three years be escheated to the State of California. Although you may reclaim your funds from the State by presenting adequate proof of ownership, we would like to save you the inconvenience.

To keep this account active, please sign the bottom of this letter and return it in the enclosed envelope.

Sincerely,

I can explain it to you. I can't understand it for you.

Our letter is quite similar to that of califgirl except it would say "inactive for a period of five years be escheated to the State of Illinois" - other that that it is very similar.

If you are in the state of california the mandatory language for a dormant notice very well not sound nice, but it is required nonetheless.
