I found two threads on ths topic, but neither answered my question. My sister recently added her deposit incorrectly, and instead of $10,400 she put $14,000. Her bank stated that they do not send deposit correction notices and that she would "see it on her statement". I know that it is not unusual for a bank to not send notices for small amounts, but this was a $3600 error. Is there any law or regulation that mandates deposit correction notices for large amounts?
Thanks,
BC

Not unless there is a state law on point. It might be simpler for your sister to simply ask the bank to provide her a "snapshot" statement or look at her account online (assuming her bank provides online banking) to determine whether a correction debit was entered. She certainly should not assume that the $3,600 is hers just because no one has sent her a notice yet.

Thanks,John.
No - she knows the $ isn't hers. She discovered the error before the bank did and asked me about it . I told her that it would probably be caught by proof and she would be notified. When she didn't get a notice, she called the bank and they stated that they did not send notices. Other than being pretty sucky customer service, I could find no law saying it was illegal.

I didn't really think the BC's sister would be misled on this. I agree with your evaluation of the level of customer service. We'd send an adjustment advice for anything over $5.
