A male family tradition that I had to adhere to was that the son's middle name is the same as his father's first name.

Honest confusion: why would your middle initial change after marriage? Do you mean you are choosing to use the first initial of your maiden name as your initial now and no longer using your middle name's initial? I've never heard of that before! Very interesting. My parents gave me a two word first name and NO middle name (thanks a lot, weirdos!). So when required to give a middle initial (like for FedLine Advantage), I will use T, which is the first letter of my confirmation name. My former boss had no middle initial and always used Q when required to give one. One of our current employees has no middle name and used X for FedLine. Edited to fix the end result of my poor typing skills today.

His Father (my idiot cousin) thought it just sounded cool!

A male family tradition that I had to adhere to was that the son's middle name is the same as his father's first name. We did that too. Only because I was afraid otherwise I'd have to argue against using it as son's first name and I realllllllly didn't want to have (lose) that discussion. WildBlue - used First Middle Last before marriage; after marriage legal name became First Maiden Last.

You don't see that as much any more.
