3 dead including an 8 yr old. 130+ injured-many seriously with limbs amputated. Reports of a Saudi National with burns on his hands being questioned at one of the hospitals. Very very sad.

And the reports this morning are that the Saudi student appears to be just another victim, and has been fully cooperative with police.

They are now talking about whether or not to hold the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon (2 weeks from now). Many of the runners have posted that they still want to run. Most of us because we dont want to give the b@st@rds that satisfaction, but also because its what we have trained for. I wouldn't want anyone to run that was uncomfortable doing so, and I would think no less of them. But I hope we run. Our race was created because of a bombing, it would be a shame if one stopped it.

Are you running this year? One of my former employees has trained for 2 years to run and he was so proud of himself for making the commitment. I really hope they hold the race.

Yes. I'm doing the half with Susan and some friends that have wanted to run in it.

Same concerns with one here. Inaugural year, set for this Sunday. I'm hoping they don't change their plans, though I'm sure it will result in more security.
Run it, and run it proud. And run it for those who may not, or can't run again due to physical or emotional damages.

One of the women from our running group was actually in between the two explosions. Thankfully she and the other runners from the group were all unhurt. My wife and I are running in Eugene on the 28th (full for her and half for me). They sent out an email yesterday evening stating that the race will go on as scheduled but they were working with authorities to try and make sure everyone is safe. I just can't imagine being at the end of a marathon and having something like that happen. As a runner you are so exhausted physically and mentally then to have to deal with something like that.

There is a video of the first blast knocking a 78 year old runner off his feet just shy of the finish line. He was unhurt except for a scraped knee from the fall. After taking a few minutes to collect himself amid the chaos, he got up and walked across the finish line.
I think that the reason this event was targeted had very little to do with targeting runners. This is an iconic event with rich history in which 90+ countries were represented - a perfect stage for a radical statement that would have a word wide audience.

Cancelling events means the bad guys win...proceed with caution, but by all means proceed That's my thought, though there are questions about whether runners will show up for the Flying Pig in a few weeks. We had a few locals that were in the area of the bombing that run this every year. The news was helpful in letting us know that they were ok! (Even the blind woman who won a couple years ago that was running the Boston)

the amount of speculation about who is responsible and why they did it is nothing short of irresponsible media...and it started within 15 minutes of the explosions...

I heard a reporter ask a runner if the first thing she thought of was a terrorist bombing when she heard the explosoins. She replied after 4 hours of running you don't think anything.

You can narrow it down to not quite 7 billion people right now. I suppose there is some natural tendancy to speculate, but extreme caution would be advisable for the media. Decorum (and the mods) prevent me from espousing exactly what I think should be done to the guilty, but such speculation could not only ruin an innocent life, but also be a hinderance to ongoing and real investigations.

There's no way to understand the method behind the madness but I'm willing to bet that you won't see this happen at another marathon. The idiots will look for a different stage now. We all need to be just that much more cautious and vigilant.
