For those who have been through an armed robbery, what are recommendations for dealing with personnel/customer emotional issues? We have recommended that they meet with their family physician's, but does anyone have other 'best practices' that worked for them. No one was physically injured during this robbery.

If you have an Employee Assistance Program as part of your bank's benefit package, counciling may be available to your employees through that. After our last robbery, the employees were given access to a certified counciler who specialized in post tramatic stress. This is a very speciallized field and most of the time a family physician is not qualified to handle it other than making a referral.

If I required post-traumatic counseling due to an incident in connection with my job duties, I would be quite displeased if I had to fork over anything out of pocket, such as copays and deductibles.

Check your Workman's Comp plan. I'm not an insurance expert, but this sounds to me like a work-related injury.

Regions must be so proud.....
I loved the last bank I worked at - upmost concern was the employee in these situations - what can we do for you?! If our insurance provider balked, the bank stepped in and took care of it...

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I am not suggesting that the employees be subject to co-pays or anything like that. Our HR department contacts the EAP and has a qualified professional on site to council and speak with any employees of the branch where the robbery occurred. Follow up appointments in this instance are also provided for without charge.

What about for customers who may be in the lobby during a take-down?
