On this, Obama has nothing to say. He leaves it entirely to the scientists. This is more than moral abdication. It is acquiescence to the mystique of "science" and its inherent moral benevolence. How anyone as sophisticated as Obama can believe this within living memory of Mengele and Tuskegee and the fake (and coercive) South Korean stem cell research is hard to fathom.

In the interest of honesty, Krauthammer owed his readers the following bit of information: although Obama's order reverses Bush's order to allow the use of federal funds for embryonic stem cell research, it does not change existing statutes (nor could it, since that would require an act of Congress). And what is that existing law? Since 1996, US law has banned the use of tax dollars to create human embryoes for research.

So is it illegal under federal law to create a human clone through somatic cell nuclear transfer and perform research on that? How 'bout federal funding - could a researched get federal funds for that under the Obama executive order?

Oh come on, now you're not being intellectually honest. You're trying to lay it off like Obama hasn't changed the number of embryoes that are going to be killed for research WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS!

Current law makes it illegal for the government to fund creating them for research. If that is to be changed, it would have to be done by Congress.

Although I didn't post anything about limits on cloning (as opposed to government funding) it is my understanding that those limits are established under state law.

Of course, more embryonic stem cells will be available, either from those stem cell lines that are aleady in existence beyond those allowed by Bush, or from unwanted frozen embryoes produced from fertility treatments but which will be discarded if not used.

How can you really be surprised by this? Obama is 100+% pro-abortion and that he didn't change that during the election. He will have the government allow and pay for more abortions.

So far, there have not been any positive results using embryonic stem cells because they can't be controlled. Adult stem cell research has shown positive results.
