In reviewing the NACHA Operating Rules, Article Four, Subsection 4.4.1 - Availability of Credit Entries to Receivers, I have come up with a question. Several banks I have spoken to only process their ACH transactions once a day, in the morning. My question is, could not an ACH credit be generated during a day with the same day as the settlement date? Such as a credit entry be generated at noon with the same date as the settlement date? If so, then the Bank would not be giving the customer credit as of the settlement date, since the credit would not be pulled in until the next day. I know PPD credits have to be made available the day before settlement, but what about other credits?

Can you claify something for me to start with, when you say they only process their ACH transactions once a day? We receive 4 ACH files, A B C D, for processing. The credit is suppose to be generated two days ahead of the effective date. The debit is one day ahead of the the effective date. In the event you generated a credit file the same day as the effective date, it will still process through the Fed. but will not post until the next day and your settlement date will be that date. I am not sure this answers your question.
