I can understand KJ and Napoleon having the porn mags in there with them, but why the banana stickers?

Weirdest thing ever found was in a box opened by search warrant along with law enforcement - a Santa in an outhouse that wet you when you opened the door. Wonder if they shared that with the judge?

A half pack of menthol GPC (Generic Pack of Cigarettes).

weirdest thing NOT found - - a customer once threatened to sue us because he was sure his drilled delinquent box contained Sitting Bull's (yes, THE Sitting Bull) ceremonial headdress and we stole it. Yeah right, in a 3X5 inch box!

That's someone who went to a lot of trouble to hide a smoking habit.

Things that make you go hmmmm.

One of my customer at a prior bank who did not have the money to pay for his box (or checks he wrote before we closed account for being od) claimed it was full of cash.

Ed, your bank should have just printed his checks with his SDB number in the MICR line.

Back in the day when I worked in a branch, we had a customer that we referred to as "the drug dealer." Turns out we were right. One day the police showed up with a warrant and found his box stuffed with illegal drugs.

Twigs and stones. We had a home for mentally challenged people next door to the branch and this older lady rented a box and would come in from time to time with her finds. Had to turn her down once when she dragged a tree branch into the bank.

Not technically in a SDB, but found in a box in a branch vault after the bank failed: 7 packets of "ethnic" Pakistani jewelry containing a variety of sets of necklaces and matching earrings, one came with a nose ring, plus numerous rings, pins, brooches, a couple of watches, and a cigarette lighter. However there was no clue as to who owned them nor how they came to be there. It was about 2 years later when the first claimant came forwards, followed soon after by another; between the two of them they claimed ownership of the whole hoard. Unfortunately for me I left the assignment before I was able to negotiate the signing of legal releases and get everyone into the same room together to divvy up the contents of the packages. I had NO intention of arranging anything other that a full, final, and complete settlement of the ownership issue at one time.
I later learned that one of my successors on the liquidation team handed over part of the horde to one of the owners, ..... and the other was about to head to court over the loss of some of her property!

Drilled and opened a box under dual control to find one (1) mint condition, very sharp brand new #2 pencil. That was all. I suggested we should definitely have 2 bank officers spend the day driving it down to the state to escheat it, but I was outvoted.

WildTurkey, if were me, I would have sold the contents and turned the proceeds over to the state as unclaimed property as soon as practical after the box was found.

(i) the bank wasn't in the US, so escheatment laws didn't apply
(ii) the bank was closed and insolvent, the liquidators were trustees - charged with liquidating fungible assets and sharing the proceeds between proven creditors, and holding specific assets to be returned to their rightful owners. The jewelry fell into the latter category and could have been held almost indefinitely.
In any case the value of the jewelry was utterly trivial compared to the asset deficiency of the failed bank (the asset deficiency ran into 10 (ten) figures in US$ terms!).

We drilled a box not too long ago and all it had in it was one red high-heal shoe.
