Has anyone in Compliance ever attended the ICBA Compliance Institute? Since I'm new to the compliance world, my bank sent me to a 2 day training session this last summer but it wasn't really geared towards newbies. It sounds like the Compliance Institute is more for beginners like me but with the cost associated (around $2,200) I wanted to get some feedback from others before presenting it to upper management. Thanks!

It is a really good overview of compliance. Geared towards a community bank. You will learn how to use the different types of resources that are available for the various programs and/or products that you have (or someone heard about) to make a more valuable analysis.

I attended the school in 2010. I thought it was a very good school and as cbinder63 stated, it is a good overview of compliance. Even if you are new, I recommend taking the exam for the certification. What you learn each day, and if you study at night what was covered in class, you could problably pass the exam.

Here's what's scary. A new compliance officer takes the certification exam and actually passes it. That person is now a certified compliance officer? Doesn't seem fair in any sense. I got my CRCM through years of experience and took the tough tests. I also took the ICBA BSA certification test and it was way too easy. It seems to me that some certifications are tooo easy to get, therefore diluting the value of others.

I agree with the assessment that the CRCM is a more rigorous standard and also requires experience. I don't believe it is diluted by the other certifications for those of us that know better.

I view my CCBCO as a 'minimum standard' that ensures that the recipient has at least a broad knowledge of most areas of compliance and serves to show the regulators, especially, that the appropriate training has been undertaken. I took this as a new compliance officer so that I could more easily come up to speed on the critical areas.

I hope to sit for the CRCM when I've acquired the needed experience.

I've gone through the IBCA Compliance Institute. It is a very good program and learned a lot of valuable information. I attended when I was brand new to compliance. It was a bit overwhelming some days especially as we got into lending compliance as I was more familiar with the deposit side. But overall, I highly recommend it.

I know I'm reviving an old post but just want to add a quick insight.

CCBCO and CRCM both cover banking compliance, however, on different levels. If CCBCO is comparable to an Associate in compliance, CRCM would be more like a Ph.D in compliance.
