I just learned that not everybody knows what May Day is!

I was not aware that this tradition was not practiced throughout the country, so now I wonder if people around here just made it up as a way of getting free stuff from their neighbors!

Not many people actually practice it...but we're at least aware of it. I had two baskets on my desk this morning from unknown gifters. Makes me hesitant to eat any of it, could be poison and whatnot.

As a fellow Midewesterner, I need to know your status on May Day. Are you aware of it? Practicing it or not makes no difference.

Well, there's the May Day parade on Saturday. Band, shriners, cute kids dancing around the May Pole. No baskets or gifts....

Around here it is a day of demonstrations, rallies and general obnoxiousness by labor unions and occupiers. No gift baskets in sight.

Same in NYC, I hear, Caligirl!

It is also 1 year after bin laden. The NYPD has there hands full today.

We have a May Day in Tennessee but we don't do baskets... the kids get out of class for the day - have sack lunches, jump roping contests, tug of war, meter dashes and races. I loved May day as a kid - now they let all of the winners from each school participate in a county wide May Day.

When I realized I was the same age as my mom when she got pregant with my younger sister. My other sister and I thought she was way too old to have a baby and told her so. She was only 30 but we thought she was sooo old!

That has been a few years and now I am closer to 40 than 30. I try to tell myself that age is just a number and it is the way you feel that counts. The downside to that is most of the time I feel like a snapdragon... part of me has snapped and the other part is draggin! LOL! I contribute that to working in Compliance...
