Looking for best practices. I am coming into a situation where members are being required to complete a change of address form while in the branch working with a banker. I feel like this is an unnecessary step. Do you know of any requirement for such a signed form, or is it simply a good practice of ensuring accuracy?

We do it to ensure accuracy and ensure we had explicit authorization to change the address. While it may seem, to some, overkill, it doesn't take a whole lot of time to prepaare the form and have the customer sign-off.

Think of it this way. You do away with the signed form. What is to stop a dishonest employee from changing customer addresses in order to steal money from their accounts?

Or a disgruntled estranged (is that redundant?) spouse from changing the address by telephone and draining the account?..

Unauthorized address changes and changes to contact info (email, phone #) are key pieces of many account takeover scams.
