There are some books that I would rather read and then there are some that I prefer the audio. I love listening to Maeve Binchy's books. There are some that I will first read and then listen to the audio. For the last 22 years my commute has been 50 minutes each way so I turned to audio books almost from day one. I really enjoy them and now have quite the library.

HRH, my commute is 40 minutes each way. I've tried audio books a few times before. Unfortunately, I can't seem to enjoy them quite as much. But I do a lot -- A LOT -- of backward reading...if I read something that references an earlier part of the book, I often go back and reread that section, maybe that's why I can't do the audio book thing?
More likely, it has to do with the fact that I can't even listen to the radio on the way to/from work or in the car in general. It drives my wife crazy!

If you're looking for a good enlightening Christian book that you will want to read more than once, read "If" by Mark Batterson. I have to read a chapter and let it soak in my brain before moving on to the next chapter. I think it will be possible to pick up something new with every read.

11/22/63 - I started reading it only to remember that I had made the attempt when it was first published. At that time, I found it tedious. That impression was refined a little bit this time; it would have been a better read if about a third of it was edited out. It's a door stopper of a book and reading it qualifies as an investment.
The Short Drop - Very good beach read, but there will be no Pulitzer

Almost exactly what my daughter said! She wanted to enjoy it, but just didn't. And so, I haven't picked it up either.
Very excited about your recommendation of "One child......"

Others I will listen to more than once. I'm always on the lookout to pick them up at Sam's or Tuesday Mornings or Amazon or book stores that sell them used...

The narrator makes a huge difference. I've quit listening to at least one because the narrator's voice set my teeth on edge.
I subscribe to Audible, rather than actually buying CDs, etc.

The Short Drop - Very good beach read, but there will be no Pulitzer I'm listening to 11/22/63 during my commute and I really like the book. I tend to find Stephen King long winded when I am reading his books but on a long drive, I don't mind as much.

Thanks for the recommendation on One Second After. Just started reading it and quickly discovered that bedtime was not the best time to start, as it is difficult to put down and go to sleep.

One Second After by William R. Forstchen. This looks very interesting. Sounds similar to 77 Days in September by Ray Gorham.

King does get long winded and pretty often. But that's part of what I like about his books. That, and his writing is generally pretty straight forward, maybe weird, but straight forward.

Listening to "Redshirts" by John Scalzi. Made immeasurably funnier by the fact that it's narrated by Wil Wheaton.

I've almost made it through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Not the easiest read (a lot characters) but I like the story very much. You can't go wrong with a mystery.
