Just a new thread so people will stop whining.

Was it political, a copy cat group, aliens, or something else?

Initially, I thought it had something to do with the Olympics thing, but I guess they are saying it has to do with that Summit.

I think this could be a decoy attack for a more serious one later. This is just too small a job for so much preparation.

Too small? Hundreds of people died in a coordinated attack in one of the most important financial centers in the world. Just because the attack didn't involve nuclear weapons or highjacked planes does not mean that this is a small attack.

London was attacked because they are our ally and they are a "crusader". I think it is remarkable that their wasn't more carnage. In that sense, someone(thing) was looking out for those innocent people.

I jokingly said "It must be the French!" this morning. Seriously, it is currently being attributed to an Al-Quaeda splinter group at this point. The language of the claim, the style of the attack, the location of the attack, all lend credence to that theory.

Another reason is probably that it was easier to get into England than it was here.

Translated text of the statement issued by the Al-Qaeda group who claims responsibility:

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.

Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.

We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.

We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."

The only massacres that are being committed in Iraq and Afghanistan are committed by terrorists. Just like these today.

Is this a joking matter?

I thought it was the Frenchies too. Mad about not getting the Olympics. Well, they don't like anybody not French, so you'd think they'd be happy we aren't all coming over there.

This seems to be the convenient reason for the attack. As has been stated in other posts, how many troops did the US have in Afghanistan or Iraq on 9/11? None. Yet Al Qaida found a reason to bomb us. How many troops did Britain have in Afghanistan or Iraq in 1988? None, yet terrorists still decided to blow up a plane over Scotland.

The terrorists would have found a reason to attack regardless of where we had troops. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq just give the fundamentalists a reason to use that they hope will rally more people to their cause.

Note to Terrorists: The reason the troops are in Afghanistan, and arguably Iraq (that's another debate) is that you (the terrorists) chose to make an unprovoked attack against civilians on 9/11.

If the terrorists want Great Britain out, not to mention the U.S., they should join the civilized world and stop killing innocent civilians, which, by the way, the U.S. and Great Britain have gone to great lengths to avoid in both conflicts.

Sorry for the rant, but I just can't comprehend the logic that says "Since you killed some of our guys with guns and bombs, we're going to kill a bunch of unarmed civilians on their way to work."
